I have been informed that the Scottish Police College takes a 2 week summer break. What is the situation with the student officers who's course runs through that 2 week break. Are they given holiday or are they assigned elsewhere for the fortnight?

The college actually closes for 3 weeks at summer, the last week in June and the first 2 in July usually. This was the case when I was there last year and we had to take the 3 weeks as annual leave whether we (Strathclyde) wanted to or not. I know that Tayside for instance used their students to help out with T in the park during that break, but I think most students are off.

Hope that helps

What about the easter break? Is that a long weekend?

I have no idea about that as I was there from May to September.

I will dig out my letter tomorrow but I'm pretty sure Easter weekend you get the Monday off and there is another mandatory bank holiday at some point.

Ok thanks for that. Having to get all the holidays covered for the kiddies. Much appreciated.

Do these breaks (easter/bank hols) affect the course time? i.e. with there be days added onto the 15 weeks or is it factored into the timetable to make us catch up?

Hi

Think it really just depends what Force you are with. My brother had the time off between Christmas and new year off as he was with Strathclyde but I know that if you were with Central they were out on the beat with some officers my husband had who was still in training at Tulliallan.
