I read that the London Fire Brigade are to terminate their contract with AssetCo - a PFI fire engine and equipment provider - (who have somewhat over reached themselves to a point of almost bankrupcy) and are to appoint Babcocks to maintain the fleet of vehicles as an interim measure.

I understand that the Met's fleet is maintained by the same company, so how have they performed? Have they been to the job? Or like AssetCo, who suffered failing KPIs and resulted to scavenging spare parts from the reserve fleet of appliances as their cash flow is so poor they can't afford to buy spares from vehicle manufactuers?

We use Babcocks, fingers crossed they seem to be doing a reasonable job, there were a few teething problems when they started but on the whole, they have been ironed out.

What Bartie said, however, in our part of the world, Babcock is a facillitator. They operate the contract, but the actual work is carried out by vehicle main dealers/ATS etc. I think that their contract for the Met is physically operated by themselves - unless someone knows better??

Babcocks mechanics are a good bunch, I have never had a problem with them.
Mind you, they are the same ones who used to be in Vensons!.
They seem to know what they are doing.

Can't vouch for their own mechanics but as a facilitator then i would have to disagree with my colleagues above!

Useless would be too kind!!
