This is not the case anymore. They opened recruitment briefly on Monday (12th) and within a few hours all slots had been filled at the recruitment events. You need to have booked a slot to received an application form. No slot = no application form. Recruitment has now therefore closed.

True guys, plus if you dont have 2 x A levels ( which I dont as I joined the Army from school in 80's), dont bother.
I served 7 years with Thames Valley police, finishing as an AFO and Search Team leader, currently I am serving with a non UK service at moment but returning to UK in 2013 for family reasons, so I've 15 years of experience, and was officially told by their HR people, no A levels, not eligible. 15 Years experience or not!!
TVP are using the guidelines as Gospel, there is no grey areas or common sense used in recruitment any more, if all services take up this education policy, they will miss out on some good candidates in my view.

That's TVP for you, I went through the recruiting system with them, years ago.
They gave me the runaround,at the time.
So I moved my application to the Met.
I'm surprised they wouldn't even consider you.
Not even considering people without A levels, is a strange way of recruiting.
It just means, they are removing so many possible officers.

Ah well, their loss as my good lady says!! If they think education and qualifications means a better officer, just shows that senior command acctually think everything revilves around them and we all want to be like them!! Nothing beats common sense in this job and old fashioned street smarts.

Anyway, best of luck to all who applied.

I suppose that due to the number of applicants, each force is able to add their own criteria to reduce the number to a manageable level. I'm sure that other forces may not (yet) insist on every candidate having A levels, but relatively few are recruiting of course.

I think about 50% (at least) of our last few intakes (where I work) have a degree - so I suspect that before long we'll also be saying we want a minimum of A levels for new recruits.

What happened too, pass this test and you are clever enough!.
Having a degree, is not a measure of common sense.
