Hi all

Can anyone provide information on the MET protection unit. I'm ex police 8 yrs service, left to go into private close protection and did some great stuff but really want to step it up a gear and looking to rejoin the MET and go into protection.

Will my close protection training/experience be seen as a positive thing? I realise i need to do firearms training amongst other things etc etc but as a female, am i going to be physically up to it?

Am i wasting my time basically?!

Thanks

Not an expert in these matters but am sure someone more knowledgeable will come along. However, when did you leave? If less than five years with most forces you can be classed as a rejoiner but if more you will have to come back as a new recruit. You will come back on the new pension and terms in either instance too. I dare say your experience out in the private sector will be useful for any career aspirations, but you will have to come back as a response officer before moving into a specialist role. It would not be fair for existing officers wishing to apply for the role either would it?

I think you would have a very valuable skill set.

DoubleG, thanks for that. You are right, i did suspect i would have to go straight into response however i have had colleagues who have gone straight into Firearms upon transferring from one force to the Met. I think it seems to be that way for Firearms?

However, i do appreciate i'm likely to get stuck into response and bide my time with the aim of the close protection unit. No idea really what route i need to go to get in but i'm sure things will become clearer if i get in.

I left the police 1 year ago so i'll be applying as a rejoiner yes. I spoke to the Met HR and they were happy with my situation.

GeorgeH thank you also for your comments.
