The 8 Year old daughter of Pc Barker has wrote a letter of thanks for all the support they have received and it was published in the local paper (News and Star). Thought people may like to read it.

Quote

"Thank you everyone for giving cards to me and my family and supporting us by giving us flowers, hugs and kisses.

"It has been a disaster over the last few days for my family and me, and people have been making dinner for our family.

"The nice people have been coming to see my mum and all our family as well as my Gran.

"My dog, Sam, went over to my dad's shoes and smelt them, then lay down beside them.

"I have about 500 cards and all of them make me better.

"Eleven people have come today as they love my family and before I go, thank you for the cards.

"Love from Emma."

Bill was a staunch supporter of the Great North Air Ambulance, and had designed a charity tie pin. To that end, the company that produces the tie pin has commissioned a memorial tie pin based on Bill's design. All proceeds are to go to the Great North Air Ambulance charity.

Unfortunately family illness has prevented my attending Billy's funeral. I'm there in thought though. About half of RPU have gone to Egremont for the funeral, and we've had support from our HATO colleagues as well as D&G and Lancashire motorway patrols. :smiley_notworthy:

I understand there is a movement for the Northside Bridge in Workington to be renamed the 'Barker' Bridge. I'd definitely support that idea.

There's a facebook group gathering momentum in getting the new bridge named after Bill.

Sorry to hear you couldn't make it to Bill's funeral. Judging by the coverage on the television, he had a wonderful send off.

Hundreds of mourners have gathered for the funeral of the police constable who was swept to his death by floodwaters in Cumbria.

Two minute silence on my coach today, mostly because people were afraid i would sling them off if they broke the one minute silence. Strangely enough, no matter how the press treat our Police, people ion the main do not seem to feel the same way. Not one person out of lots of people had a problem with the minute silence. That made me very proud. :smiley_notworthy: :smiley_notworthy:

RIP PC Bill Barker :smiley_notworthy: :smiley_notworthy:

Motorists who faced an 18-mile detour after a Cumbrian town was split in two by flood waters will be able to use a £4.6m temporary structure later.
