Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding my application and was wondering what your thoughts are as I know many of you may be in the same position as myself.

I have passed most stages of the recruitment process (Day 1, Day2, Vetting) and am now currently waiting for my references to be sent out before I can get a start date. I was told on my Day 2 to expect them to be sent out in 3 months time (December 2009) and after that to expect an estimated 6 months to start which would bring me to a start date of around June / July 2010 (next year).

If that is the case, then I am going to get a job until then because I do not fancy being skint! I was told during my Day 2 this would be OK to do as long as I let recruitment know.

As far as I am aware, references are to be completed before a start date is given, however, if I start a job now, I will not want the job knowing about the police until a couple of months before I leave them because they may not give me the job knowing that I will leave them! This begs the question, if I get a job now, will this further postpone my start date as recruitment may want to ask the employer for a reference? My priority lies with the force and do not want to delay this further.

Anyone have the same problem?

Hiya,

Same sort of problem as me im due out of the Army in December and recruitment havent even started my vetting yet so a start date is a long way off. I did ask recruitment a while back about getting another job between leaving the army and starting training and they said it was fine. I will ring again just to double check but they cant expect us just to keep waiting about for a start date that at the moment keeps getting further and further away.

Unfortunately gentlemen, I and another member found out yesterday that they are now freezing all references being sent for what's seems to be around 3-4 months.
This is more than likely due to the fact that all intakes up to Feb 2010 are fully booked so any thing after that you would expect them to be needing recent References for Feb and beyond.

Sorry but not the best of news I'm affraid.

This was confirmed by recruitment yesterday with myself.

All the best,

Murph

Thanks for that info Murph.

So, if they are freezing all references for the next 3-4 months, then essentially that is a further 3-4 month wait on top of what I was expecting, so that means instead of june/july 2010 it will be september/october 2010, which is another year. I definately better off finding a job till then!

They ask for references of recent employers only if you've worked there longer then 6 months so you should be ok.

As for references paramurph I know your case is slightly diffrent, but we've known for a while that there weren't any start dates till early/mid next year. So it was to be expected that they stopped sending references for a while and concentrate on other aspects of recruitment! We'll get there eventually can't wait!

I spoke with the recruitment manager today to seek some clarity with regards to the whole of the recruitment process.

He advised that those who have not had references requested yet are put on hold. He said that those who are not likely to be given a start date within the next 12 months have been sent letters advising this. Those that are with the intake team should get a start date within the next 12 months.

Regarding the intakes for next year, no one has been put on these yet as the figures have not been confirmed. He is hoping to hear within the next couple of weeks what the figures for January are. Once they do know the figures they can then start allocating places. Places will be allocated based on two things - length of time you have been waiting and the life skills questionnaire form. For those of you that haven't filled one of these forms out you will be sent one.

He did advise that it is purely a waiting game for all of us that have passed our day 2's.

Hope this helps a little.

Aimes

Thanks Aimes

Whilst this isn't exactly new information it always helps to have things clarified as the longer the wait goes on the less certain anything seems!

Thumb twiddling time.....

Thanks for the info Aimes.

So it still stands that everyone who has passed day 2 will still get a start date at some point, but this may be over 12 months away?

As i understand it, i think everyone who has passed day two will get a start date within 12 months, unless already notified

Thank u all for the information on this site. Good to know there r others in the same situation.
I am currently waiting for a start date and I passed my day 2 in may and have heard nothing since. I have called the recruitment team a few times, but I think I keep getting fobbed off. The last I heard is that there would b no more intakes until feb or march and these date as yet have not been set so I have now booked myself a 3 week holiday to aus in jan, but I desperately just want to get some answers as to when my start date will be. I am currently in full time employment and my employers have already found out that I am waiting for a met start date. Thankfully they have been really good about it, but I feel it is only fair to give them accurate information.

Well thank u for letting me get that off my chest on this forum. I just really want to start :)

I am going to try calling hr today to see if I can get any more info, but I doubt it. Will let u know if I do. I have some friends already in the met and so far they have found out for me that they are not doing any more recruitment, but those that are in the system I.e passed day two will get a start date, just got to wait!!

Lucy

Well, after speaking to hr the info is that I am still in line for feb or march start date, but won't hear until about 8 weeks before. However how accurate that info is I don't know as I've been told previously I was in line for oct / November start?

Janza really sorry to hear that and very surprised. Are you at the referencing stage? I would have thought your file would have been with the intake team by now.

Oh no! what a nightmare! I thought that May start dates would be ok! I'll be awaiting a letter then as my Day 2 was beginning of July!

 That does NOT bode well! I am assuming you have had all your references and your file is already signed off? I have not received anything yet but had Day 2 in June so would imagine that I can expect an uwelcome envelpe at some stage.

Perhaps this is a tactic to force people to withdraw from the process and thus get numbers who have passed Day 2 in line with their new budget figures which dictate how many spaces there are. I am not sure how many people can put their lives on hold bearing in mind the majority of people in our situation would have applied at the end of 2008/ beginning of 2009.

I am going to get in touch with my RO.

I got one too. Haven't had references taken yet. It states that as well as the life skills questionaire the time since the application was received will be taken into account when working out potential start dates
