What is ‘Balance Your Bobbies’?

Balance Your Bobbies is a fresh and innovative way for you, the public, to let us know what is important to you. Your responses inform your local Neighbourhood Policing Teams of key issues specific to your community, and by Balancing your Bobbies you will be able to inform your District Inspector where you believe his/her neighbourhood policing resources should be spent.

In essence its a way of telling your local officer what your policing priority is, by using a sliding police helmet scale. Its great to know what the priorities are, i would hate to not know what im unable to deal with due to lack of resources and ineffective law courts.

It's a bit like North Wales' answer to Thames Valley's http://www.whosmybobby.co.uk/ which I think has got a slightly better title - why don't all forces use the same thing?

When you drill down to an LPT to email an officer it brings up that LPT area on the main force website which suggests that a blog might be coming soon - which I think is an excellent idea To email the officer you actually have to scroll down this page to the contact form which some people might miss.

On the balanceyourbobbies LPT page you can interactively tell the LPT what your priorities are for the neighbourhood by using a slidey policeman's helmet graphic against a list of set priorities. It says it only lets you have one go a month but I suspect if you deleted the cookie they download to identify your PC you could have more.

I like all initiatives like this but do wonder if it would be more cost effective to use a single piece of software countywide?

Added: It's a bit cleverer than I thought and doesn't use cookies alone to ID your PC!

I just wish that the police would get on with their job and stop introducing gimmicks.
Most bobbies on the beat are honestly battling against the criminal enemy.
They need all the support they can get, and websites like this, just cost resources that the Police need to get on with the real job.

Well my email would be something like "can you please send some Police to patrol where i live, as the only time i see them is when they are flying past with blues & twos on, or when a crime has been committed. There is no preventative Policing where i live. I find it very frustrating, as do my neighbours, that we work and pay tax an NI, yet the areas where there is high unemployment seem to get the better service. Thats not fair considering i pay and they dont!!"

Isn't this the same/similar to community policing? (Re-inventing the wheel or perhaps just re-labeling it)!!!

Its always good to see a police officer on the beat but they have very little real impact on crime, the crims know full well they are single crewed, will be round the corner on a few minutes and not back for ages. They cant do all that much as they are either on their way to a community meeting or doing their 80% time patrol. People should not comitt crime because, firstly its wrong and they should know, then because of the punishment, then because there might be a police officer round the corner. We cant be everywhere all the time.
in sussex we have about 1.3 million residents. and 3.5 thousand officers, thats not a lot
