    6 on 3 off vs 4 on 4 off

Hi all, I'm currently working 6 on 3 off - three earlies of 0800-1600 and three lates of 1500-0000. If I change departments I would be working 4 on 4 off - two days of 0700-1900 and two nights of 1900-0700. My partner works around my shifts and I have two small children under five. I cannot decide if shorter shifts, not working after midnight, not working BH etc outweighs working less days and having an extra day off. Has anyone done both who could comment on which they prefer and why? I'm looking for the best family/social/work ratio. Cheers
