Hi mate, in the CNC you will be a PC and it is a real police force. However, if you had your heart set on the MDP, you might be as well to wait for them to recruit again. From what I can gather, and I don't know this for sure, the CNC process is painstakingly sloooooooooow.

If you check the CNC website you'll see that a lot of the stations are located at out of the way places..and the better stations have a large number of officers waiting to transfer into them..

CNC looks like expanding a lot to cover the building of new nuclear power stations but with the credit crisis the way it is dont hold your breath...

Real = Regular not Special :raz:

I'm aware that this point of view will be considered controversial but CNC officer I spoke to at G8 years ago referred to himself and his colleagues as 'armed security guards' From talking to him his day to day life involved little to no actual 'policing' and was almost completely security based.

Exactly the same powers of arrest however the chance to exercise that power within CNC/MDP will be very few and far between instances.

Yeah I totally agree! I know a couple of guys in the CNC they said it is very much so security based and would totally recommend it as a sunset force! However if you are a young gun looking for excitement don't join!

Im sure there will be many that disagree with this view!

I would disagree with the comment thats its a "sunset force".. however both MDP/CNC do not, on a regular basis, carry out normal policing duties as that is primarily the role of the local home office police force. Therefore i would agree that if you want to carry out normal policing duties then go Home Office..however if you're interested in specialisation etc firearms, dog handler, special operations then CNC/MDP offer far greater opportunity for these than home office...so choose wisely :bye:

I heard a great comment the other day. For those looking to go out nicking lots of scum, change the world, wear your underpants on the outside of your trousers etc., choose a Home Office force :)

Certainly if you want to be trained in any of the above skills then crack on, if you want to actually USE the skills then join a HO force. And special operations? What on earth is special operations when it's at home?

There are various "special duties" that both the CNC/MDP do...look up the Special Escort Group as an example. As for using these skills then of course...but good luck trying to GET into them in a Home Office force without your face fitting/been in the job for a long time.

Also certainly MDP officers around the country assist and work with their Home Office colleagues a lot more than people may think..judging by the amount of assistance rendered incidents i see working in a divisional control room...

Ah, so 'special operations' is essentially escort duties? I'm not trying to disparage CNC officers I'm really not but I do want people to have a fair idea of what they're getting into. As for the 'assistance rendered' incidents you speak of could that be because the officers are so bored they go to whatever they can outside their normal remit?
