CNC - I think it sounds great!

Recommended Posts

Hi Forum- I am new to the site, and as yet NOT a bobby...

I am a self employed tiler. I recently (well, nearly 2 years now) moved from Yorkshire to North Devon with my wife who is a PC. She transferred down from GMP to Devon & Cornwall and loves it.

I have always wanted to join the Police, but have never seemed to have the opportunity, whether through not hearing about recruitment till its too late, or not knowing enough about what was required.

I recently applied to Avon & Somerset and scored well enough to be able to transfer my application to the CNC. I had read a lot about the CNC and it really appeals to me, more so than a HO force.

I've submitted my application along with Assessment centre results (which have been accepted) and am now waitng for my fitness test & medical, possibly around Feb/March 2010...

Can anyone perhaps tell me a bit more about the CNC, maybe a serving officer about the day to day operation and what sort of career prospects there are?

At the ripe old age of 34 I am keen to hit the ground running, and would be wanting to progress as quickly up the ladder as I could!

Also, does anyone have any idea how long it will take to get in too?

There's not much information on the 'net- believe me, I've looked!

Thanks in advance

Neil

I cannot give info on the job, but good luck with your application. If the government's latest statements are anything to go by, they will need a few more CNC officers to work around those 10 new nuclear sites.

Hello Neil,

I have just been made an offer by the CNC and the application process took almost 17 months in all. I have enjoyed the apllication process and can't wait to start training as a CNC officer.

I reccomrnd that if you are interested in the CNC .....go for it....you will not be sorry and the future is Nuclear....especially when natural gas and electricity run out.

Good luck m8 with your application

Hi Neil,

I'm new to this site also. I am also awaiting a fitness/ medical for the CNC in feb.

When did you sit your Assessment centre?

I'm based in the South West also. I've spoken to the HR team and it would appear that the April training intake is already full and that they then run them every 2 months. You are allocated a course based on how long you have been waiting, and subject to availability at your location choice.

Congratulations Centurion on your recent news, I hope you will keep us posted with your progress!

Hi Trifella,

I wouldn't get too dispondent just yet, from what I have read and understand the HR team could have allocated recruits (including yourself) without notifying the people concerned. It would appear that they don't offer a course until all the vetting is cleared etc, I am also led to believe that this can be as late as 4 weeks prior to the course start date!

I really got the impression from talking to them that their priorities are with the people that have been waiting the longest and their aim is to offer a course within the 12 months of the assessment centre.

Trifella,

I'm in exactly the same situation; my assessment centre pass also expires in April. Try not to be too disheartened: good things come to those who wait!

ame1 - keep us updated with the progress of your application!

Cheers

Hello everyone, This is my first post as a new member. Im posting my application off this week for the CNC for the 27th of Nov deadline. Its quite a daunting experiance. I have a question you all you guys and girls.

I have tattoos on both forearms, I am willing to cover them as a career is way more important than showing them off. Neither of them offensive in any way. They are very personal and i have no interest in people seeing them anyway. Do you think they will hinder my application?.

I also have a minor caution for a very stupid drunken thing 10 years ago. It was not theft or anything really dishonest but, it was a very stupid thing. Its not showing on the PNC but obviously im gonna declare it as i dont want to lie as i am a very honest person. I know itc viewed on a merit basis but i was wondering will they throw my application regardless?.

Good luck to all those wanting to better themselves and trying to make a difference and any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. :  :sweatingbullets:

crink,

Notwithstanding your two concerns aforementioned, I cannot see why they would hinder an application. Nonetheless, I am not a recruitment or HR specialist and do not know the exact parameters with which an individual application is assessed. Therefore, always be entirely honest and as precise as you can be with any information you give.

Good luck

Well done and good luck to you. Dont want to rain on your parade, but you may have to wait a while as per all the other posts on here. I passed my assessment in April and all other stages since. I have been told that I am having to do assessment centre again as I am not on the April 2010 course, and there are probably many more than me in front of me waiting for courses. Well Im just guessing that there are considering here have been a couple of recruitment campaigns since mine. You may be lucky, I dont know, I just want to set your expectations.

I guess Its down to where you have applied and vacancies etc.

I am under no illusion that it may take a while, but fingers crossed It will be sooner rather than later!

A friend of my wifes has been waiting to get into Devon & Cornwall over 2 years after passing everything

Hi yes that is true, one of my choices was Sellafield, so a little confused, and I dont think it matters what you put down from what I have seen, they'l just send you anywhere anyway.

Dont really want another force, I have been a HO officer, and I have done this type off work in the RAF Police so I know what to expect.

My friend passed for the BTP, had his uniform fitted warrent card pic taken in 2006 and he's still waiting.

Blimey!

I don't get it- why recruit if you don't have vacancies!?!?
