  1. Police Scotland Recruitment

Hi everyone. Got my A/C coming up at the end of the month. I was getting my optician report done earlier on and he told me I wasn't going to make the eye sight standard if I am successful. Has anyone been in this situation and went for laser surgery? I don't want to go and get it done and then not pass my A/C. On the other hand if I get through my A/C should I just tell them I will not make the eye sight standard and defer my medical for a while. Any advice from anyone who has been in this situation would be greatly appreciated.

What area command are you going through? I applied in June. Got email inviting me do the fitness mid December. Passed Fitness mid Feb. It's a waiting game however once you start going through each stage it does move on fairly quickly. Good luck.
  3. SET and Fitness Test

Not too sure how long it takes for North. I am going through west at the moment. My interview was about two weeks after I passed my fitness. If you are feeling confident about fitness and SET then I would suggest getting the head down and studying just incase they give you a date that is pretty soon. Good luck.

It's worth having some knowledge on it. I wouldn't worry about in depth detail. If they know you have a basic understanding of it then you should be fine. Good luck with your interview. Where are going for your initial?
  5. Police Scotland Recruitment

Not too bad thanks, getting there! You will be fine. If you can handle the initial interview then you will be fine at the A/C. Everyone says it is a great day and the interview isn't as nerve racking as the first ( hopefully ). Best advice I was given was to drink the water provided, take a breath and then answer the question. It works. It gives you an extra few seconds to think of one of the examples and structure it the way required. The staff really want you to do well. Be yourself and enjoy it. Good luck! Give me a private message if you're struggling with anything , after all we are in the same boat ha!!

When is your A/C and where abouts are going going for it?
  8. Police Scotland Recruitment

Hi everyone, preparing for my initial interview which is coming up soon. I am looking over the code of ethics. Do I need to know them Inside out? I have a good knowledge of the 9 protected characteristics for equality. It's more the integrity, fairness and respect I am struggling to soak in the detailed information about.

Can anyone provide examples or what to talk about regarding the personal awareness competency? Not looking for major Info, just a point in the right direction.

Cheers for that, that will help alot. Ive heard alot about good cop / bad cop interviews but i believe that is how they find the best candidates. You wouldnt make a good police officer if you couldnt handle someone challenging you face to face. Well done on getting through the process. Hope the wait hasn’t been too painfull! Good Luck with you’re new career :)

Thanks for the advice, I will follow that and hopefully it all goes well. Do the interviewers tell you the competencey they are asking about before they ask the question? Or have I picked that up wrong from a previous post?

Thanks for the reply everyone. Helps alot. Think I am just overthinking things and imagining the worst. Any other advice on initial interview? Two weeks and counting!

From what I have been reading on here the process certainly does sound like an emotional rollercoaster and a long one at that! I have my study notes made up and constanly looking over them so hopefully I take it all in and can remember it come the interview. I also have something else on my mind that has completely threw me. It has to do with the vetting. I stumbled on a thread on the page regarding people being rejected at the vetting stage due to third parties etc. I should be fine with that side of vetting however I didn't declare my monlthy phone bill on the financial section. I know it sounds daft but I don't want to get all the way and fail vetting due to an integrity issue with not declaring my monthly phone bill! Do you think i should contact recruitment and add this on or am I being competely off my head?

Thanks for the reply mate, I appreciate the advice. Well done on getting through the process yourself. Was it as challenging as you thought? Not been for an interview in about 8 years so hoping the nerves don't get the better of me.
  15. Police Scotland Recruitment

Hi Everyone, I have been on the forum for a while now trying to find out as much information regarding the recruitment process. I applied to West command last June, took a while getting a date for initial fitness test etc. Recently Passed the initial fitness and have my initial interview coming up relatively quickly! ( previously passed SET so don't need to sit again) Looking for some advice in terms of the best way to prepare. I have a decent understanding of the core competencies and trying to write down as many examples as possible regarding them. Using the force website to the best of my ability to soak up as much information about the force/officer duties and the probation programme. I am also planning on visiting a Police station before my interview to speak to some serving officers ( hopefully a probationer!) If anyone could share any further advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
