Is It Possible To Apply For Specials And Regular Pc At The Same Time?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if this is possible? I have an application going through for the Specials which is now at vetting stage but my chosen force is now recruiting for regular trainee PCs which I would prefer and would like to apply but don't really want to withdraw my Specials application just in case for some reason I don't make it through the recruitment process for the regular PC.

I applied for both with West Yorkshire Police. I checked with HR and they were fine with it. Even completed the college of policing specials assessment and SEARCH within a few weeks of each other. My PC application was successful so has superseded the specials one but I'd just check with the relevant force HR team.

Hi Alphasierra

Thanks for that. I have contacted the specials HR team and they seem to be ok with me also trying for the regular PC application. They've got me pencilled in for a training date subject to vetting so I'll hang onto that and see how I get on with the regular PC application. Would obviously prefer to get in to train as a regular PC but don't want to lose the Specials place if I am not successful with the regulars.

with Hampshire you can, in case it helps anyone.

Hi Badtoro,

This is handy to know. I am currently training as a SC and when the PC positions go live I will be sending in an application :)

You can apply for the role of a Police Special Constable or New Police Constable while either is on-going.

Ex: If your New PC application is on-going, you may apply for Special Constable.

If you pass your 'Day 1 Assessment', you will not need to complete this again for some period of time so you'd proceed straight to the latter assessment ("day2") if you pass the sift stage of the application and so forth.

I called the Metropolitan Recruitment Team and they confirmed this.

I highly doubt you'll be able to hold both offices, though, so if you pass you may be faced with making a decision. Police Constable or Police Special. Though, I believe PC always takes precedence.

I hope this helps.
