Police chiefs say that the new semi-automatic firearms are designed to be used in densely-populated areas. Police in one Belgian city are now being armed with paintball guns. Rapid response units in Antwerp are being handed the non-lethal weapons, familiar to stag doers and wannabe warriors across the world. Police chiefs say that the new semi-automatic firearms are designed to be used in densely-populated areas. They can also fire pepper spray missiles. And police bosses hope that they will help neutralise dangerous suspects without actually killing them. So far, some four FN 303s have been ordered by the city’s fast deployment teams. The special units, which use unmarked cars to patrol the streets, were created following the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, France, at the start of the year. Raids on the satirical magazine and a Parisian supermarket in January left 17 people dead, not including the gunmen. The killings sparked a worldwide show of solidarity under the banner ‘Je Suis Charlie’. At least 7,500 police officers demonstrated outside France’s justice ministry Wednesday protesting a lack of resources and what they say is insufficient support from the judiciary in their daily law enforcement work. The protest was billed as the broadest showing of discontent within the police since 1983, when then Justice Minister Robert Badinter faced similar protests and accusations of laxity after gangsters killed two policemen. This time, too, the discontent came to a head a week after a prisoner who was granted a brief out-of-jail permit seriously wounded a policeman in a shootout in Seine-Saint-Denis on the northern edge of Paris. “There’s real anger here,” said police union representative Gregory Goupil. Hello BlueBoy85 Many thanks for your kind message. I've registered the fraud online, and sent the cheque to the Action Fraud with a note. That way they can use it if need be. I was not left out of pocket as I had not done the translation, I just prepared the documents - thanks - ITI members are often targeted by criminals within the ITI directory. I just asked for a payment in advance for a translation quote, but did not expect a fraudulent cheque to be posted from S.A. As the quote was in pounds sterling, the cheque in Euro, and the bank was Irish, I immediately phoned the bank to check if the cheque was genuine. They confirmed it was a fraud, and to send it to the Police. I did not want to bother the Force with it locally. I've used your recommended website. I did not know it exists. I'll mention it to the ITI forums if a translator is a victim, but most translators nowadays are very careful. I'm sending it to the fraud squad. Very sophisticated fraud, I must admit from South Africa. I could not see for sure if it were a true or forget cheque. Thanks to you, I did not bother local police officers with a trivial request for info as they are probably very busy. :) Thanks again for your help :)

Hello My name is Patricia Camille and I have rejoined this forum. A few years ago I got some help with dealing with a life threatening situation, and I must say that Hampshire Police sorted it out, and gave me some comforting help and assistance so that I stopped living in fear. I've come back to the forum because I had received a fake cheque. Being a translator, I checked it with the bank who asked me to forward it to the police, but I do not know if you're inundated with such requests, and where to send it to. Any advice would be welcomed. Shall I send it to someone - faked cheque from an Irish bank in Euro, or simply bin it? And if sending it to someone, to whom shall I send it? I've come back to this forum as I do not want to burden the force with silly requests for info so the forum is much more laidback, and it is a non-urgent non-life threatening incident. Any help and assistance regarding linguistic problems, translation and interpreting problems, tuition advice, I'll be happy to help and assist in return. I'm a qualified translator, interpreter and tutor working with the French language. thanks - merci Patricia

I logged again another report last night, and gave a copy of the phone messages that my ex partner left on my 2 mobiles. The lady constable and the gentleman constable came, took the report, took the tape recording of all the messages that I managed to save, and arrested my ex partner. He was released this morning with a caution, but not prosecuted as his threats were not specific, and the death threats were old and without a specific date. He recognised harrassment, and was asked never to contact me again. It is sad that an 18 year relationship ended that way, but I've endured too much all these years. Now, I want to rebuild my life and finances. It's a fresh start from me, and I wish to thank the Police and, in particularly, the Hampshire Constabulary Police for their kind support. Even though the CPS will not pursue the matter, but John had nevertheless a caution, now I should be in peace again. I'll have my first night of sleep in peace tonight, and for the first day in years, the phone will not ring incessantly with abusive messages and threats. I owe it to the Police, and I thank you all very much. As a professional translator and interpreter, I know that you hear too often about complaints, and not enough about thanks. So let me thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your generous help. I really feel sorry to have disturbed some police officers for 3 nights in a row with my problems, but I will remain eternally grateful for your help, and the peace that I will be able to enjoy from now on. Thank you very much, especially to the Hampshire Constabulary Police and the Domestic Violence Unit in Basingstoke. Thank you. Patricia -

Thank you very much for your kind support. After reading your replies, I took my courage again and logged a second report with 101 against my ex for harrassment for 3 weeks after our separation. I got call id and choose to refuse and barred all his numbers, and asked for a properly trained officer to have a word with John to ask him to leave me alone. So far today, I had my first day of peace for the last 18 years. Thank you all for your support. Your replies certainly put my faith back into the Police again. Thanks as I was desparate yesterday. Thanks again. Now I'm rebuilding my life and home business. Thanks. Patricia -

Thanks Ian for the kind word. Unfortunately that was not the case at the police station of Basingstoke this morning. I fell onto an officer who played it down, found it funny, was rather amused by the whole event, and made me wait for 1.5 hours for nothing so I ended up leaving the police station and wished I never set foot in Basingstoke. I am rather put off now for asking for help, and I am back to square one. So I confronted my ex on the phone, and hope he won't harrass anymore. If he comes drunk and threatening, I will sort it out myself then. Thank you for being understanding, but now I can confirm that not all officers understand domestic violence. Certainly not the one of this morning at the Basingstoke station. Patricia -
Hello, my name is Patricia. I'm sorry but I'm not a police officer but a simple translator. However, I would like to have some advice about domestic violence as my ex has been pestering me for over 3 weeks after our separation. I hope I won't offend any members of this forum by my request. This is serious. I'm a bit worried before going to Basingstoke police station this morning to make a report as advised. Thanks Patricia
