Just passed final fitness today! Intake is 26th March - anyone else got their final offer yet??

hi guys just spotted this now. so to the best of my knowledge: 1. CNC has no powers or is trained (at the moment) to "pursue". 2. it is not CNC`s priority - in that case I guess passing a VRN and description of incident to a local Home Office force would suffice since we are in touch with them. 3. if an officer reasonably believes that the person he is pursuing is in a possession of a unlawfully removed NM then (if authorised) he would be allowed to pursue outside the 5k radius. Hope this helps - does this answer your questions? :)

Be yourself. Don' try and overshadow your team mates but instead involve them and if you notice one of them is struggling to get a say in things help them out by asking their point. It's not about completing tasks it's about how you work with each other. Don't be scared to have a different view to others oh and be aware they are always listening and will have eyes on you even during lunch as other members of staff report anyone who is doing or saying out of line. Have fun too. It is a good day.

The questions I received were always awkward, something like; "Describe a situation when you received negative feedback when working with a team" "Describe a time when you had to make an unpopular decision" - "What was the negative impact your decision had on the group" "Describe a time when you gave poor service, or a customer was left unsatisfied with you work"

Fact - we are only allowed to recruit to maintain complement currently And second fact - between April 17 and Mar 18 (our recruiting year) we recruited 209 people In the 2017 calendar year 227 I know because I recruit them not sure where you get your FACTS from! šŸ¤”

I do still speak to some officers I joined with and worked with and they have said it is improving somewhat given the forces new(ish) initial training package and initial selection process. New recruits land on station with their shiny kit knowing full well what their role entails - especially those at AWE where the problem mainly was. Long term that number of joiners v leavers should steadily improve. Recruits are far more aware of what role the MDP currently has and what role it potentially has in the future too. Nevertheless it’s always going to be the case where recruits join and realize it’s not for them and seek to leave - whether that be another force or not. It happens in every occupation. I do think the issue of joining to leave has been addressed and to be fair a lot of time and effort has gone into tackling it, and I think people such as MDPREC have played a big part in it. Huge numbers are still applying and joining the MDP even with more home office forces opening up recruitment, you only have to look at the Facebook page for proof. That indicates to me that the MDP are doing something right.
  10. 1 point
True..didn’t make that very clear did I? My apologies!
  11. 1 point
If there is a role or station you are interested in when joining in the MDP push the issue to get it the force has sent recruits to special units and sought after stations without advertising the vaccencies to serving officers first. Once you are in the job and at a station its nearly impossible to get a move as new recruits will always have priority for vaccencies so try as hard as you can to get what you want straight away
  12. 1 point
The role is becoming more varied with Op Servator etc so you can’t say static guarding is the only function! And lots of new business is being won! Unless you actually know what goes on at HQ you can’t really criticise! Do you have access to exit data? Otherwise your claims are unfounded! The forces exit rate is no different to historical figures! Especially if you’ve left the force!! OSU don’t generally take new recruits - it’s happened recently but not likely to happen much in future! Generally you can apply for assessment after 2 years probation in normal circumstances
  13. 1 point
A fixed penalty for speeding is absolutely irrelevant. Especially if it’s a family member.

Unfortunately BMI is a factor! Before you go to medical get a weight & body composition print out! Think theyll be looking for under 23% body fat for men in future
  15. 1 point
From 1st April. There’s isn’t a link to it as such I just know the Dr takes a measurement & you should be aiming for BMI of 30 or less
  16. 1 point
From experience if you’re already thinking of going to a HO force, don’t bother joining the MDP - apologies if it sounds brutal. A lot of people joined to go to HO office, me included and collectively probably helped to drag morale down at our stations in a time when morale was already low. I’m reliably informed it has improved significantly in recent times much due to the MDP specific training course now being ran at HQ and people are now actually aware of what the MDP is and does. Each force is different, as is each recruiter. Some will take you, some will force you to start from fresh and some will not entertain recruiting an already serving police officer with the MDP whatsoever. If you’re going to join the MDP make sure you know what it is and don’t join with the aspiration to leave. It does the force no good, is detrimental to your colleagues and more importantly destroys you when you’re facing an uphill battle to get out.

There’s a fitness test guide on our website, have a read. BMI is also assessed at medical so you need to be conscious of that and waist measurement if you get to that stage! Get practicing the bleep test as much as you can as we are moving to only giving 2 attempts

Some forces will take MDP as ā€˜transferees’ in the broader term. Some conduct training analysis and require completion of training again, others only accept them as new recruits. Very much dependent on the recruiting force
  19. 1 point
The TSG are only based at AWE! Officers can undertake a support officer course ā€˜detachment’ with them with the view to undertaking training & assessment over a 6 month period. If you qualify you can then join properly! If you want more in-depth info email your recruiter

What would happen if the CNC attempted to stop and search a vehicle but the person attempted to evade the CNC and was able to go as far enough to go over the 5km radius? Would they (CNC) be required to stop and pass details over to the local territorial police force, or are they allowed to continue to pursue. (I will leave reasons to do a stop and search for your own imagination (although I understand if the CNC Officers believe that materials has been unlawfully removed from the site then they can pursue to recover it)).

Has anyone who passed Day 2 in Nov passed vetting/got training dates yet?
  25. 1 point
This seems to be a subject that comes up at least once a week, so hopefully this will be of help to potential applicants. All of this information is in the public domain and freely accessible. A Police Officer/Staff would normally undergo three types, CRB, Security & Financial. CRB Ć¢ā‚¬ā€œ Will normally be at enhanced level, this check will interrogate databases listing criminal convictions, sex offenders register and watch lists for vulnerable groups such as those who can not work with children or at risk adults. This can take up to six weeks. Security Vetting Ć¢ā‚¬ā€œ This is the most in-depth and has a number of levels, the standards set out in the Manual of Protective Security and now consists of 5 levels and allows certain access to Protectively Marked Material (PMM): BC - Basic Check, allows access to RESTRICTED information and supervised access to Confidential CTC Ć¢ā‚¬ā€œ Counter Terrorist Check , for people who work in sensitive areas, does not allow access to PMM SC Ć¢ā‚¬ā€œ Security Check, allows access to Secret and supervised access to Top Secret, will be reviewed no later than every 10 years. SCE Ć¢ā‚¬ā€œ Security Check Enhanced, this is a new level brought in by HMG in July 2007, allows unrestricted access to Secret material for staff working on Top Secret Information but do not require unrestricted access to Top Secret Documents. DV Ć¢ā‚¬ā€œ Developed Vetting, this would allow routine and unrestricted access to Top Secret marked material and below, this would be reviewed no later than every five years. Checks up to SC level would normally result in checks against the PNC, Security Service Records and Financial Checks (Credit Reference). SCE and above would also include direct interviews with the Vetting Officer as well as references being obtained from friends/family and employment. And may include further interviews. Due to its very nature security Vetting can take unto six months as the checks will be detailed, if there are periods outside of the UK then the checks may well take longer. Above all be PATIENT, it will take as long as it takes, chasing forces for this may well hinder you application rather than aid it.

As mentioned above, if your long term goal is to go for the regulars then go for it. I started off by applying for the specials and was going to run it alongside a law degree. Quickly realised that I didn’t want to do law or join the specials and wanted to join the regulars. Asked for my application to be swapped over after the SET/Initial Fitness stage and they were more than helpful. I had the intention of going for promotion in my previous job if I didn’t get in the police the first time. Potentially something you could look at in your current role to help you meet some of the competencies better. Been in just under a year now and haven’t looked back.

Thanks. Formats the same. Generally shorter. Felt more relaxed than the first time round. Just be calm and engage your brain before talking. šŸ˜‚

Oh tough one....i think id ask to come back to that question and carry on with the rest of the interview and go back to it.
  30. 1 point
I didn't.....i had loads of examples and didn't use any because the questions didn't fit....but don't allow that to panic you....just learn what the competencies are....and think of general examples for each one .....but not in too much depth. You've got this šŸ‘šŸ‘
  31. 1 point
I know what you're feeling just now, trust me! prepping for the first interview but what I've noticed is there is an absolute abundance of info out there! Too much so if you ask me! Just try and get a general understanding for the most of it and try to relax. From what i hear on here they don't need super in-depth explanations just enough to show you understand.
  32. 1 point
I was asked about the rank structure but didn't need to provide names. The asked about specialist units but just what I knew. I wasn' asked anything about local or force priorities but I did learn about run tell hide and stop and search. I was asked about probationer training. I didn' learn this word for word I just gave them an abbreviated version. Partnership working was in my 2nd interview where they just asked if I knew what it meant and how it can be of benefit. I stressed out loads thinking I needed to know everything so I feel your pain, don't stress too kuch. If you don't know something just say that you will make sure you know it for the 2nd interview. Good luck.

Hey, Just a heads up, don’t worry about hitting all descriptors, you can only hit the relevant descriptors depending on the question that is being asked. Focus more on the words in bold and just keep looking at them so they are fresh in your head. Don’t learn your answers word for word and please use the STAR method as that’s how they want the answers to the question. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

First arrest wasn't that interesting. Second arrest managed to recover a brand new iPhone X after finding the suspect on a roof, had him kick off when searched in custody, then kicked off when we saw him removing drugs from his arse later(he was further arrested for this) and piled into his cell, then was allowed to go for a piss and then kicked off and blocked himself in, and got sprayed and dragged back into his cell. Was quite the eventful evening.

I think we all learn differently. My technique was to write all the competencies on a page and then write all my examples underneath each competency, some of my examples were very weak - but they ended up being used on the day. As it turns out, no example is weak, it's more about how well prepared you are for the inevitable 'trip-up' questions. Once all the competencies had a few examples on the cover sheet I then made an a4 page with STAR headings and bullet-pointed briefly the main points I wanted to mention for each of my examples.
  36. 1 point
Just practice saying them over and over. Some people record them and listen to it while they are out running or at the gym. Use the star method too if that works for you. Good luck

Yep that was exactly like the questions I got. "Describe a time were you were frustrated" That was the question that really knocked me off. With it being so loose I just struggled to tell a story as such. I'd prepare for similar questions.
  39. 1 point
Hiya, you don' need to hit every point on the descriptors. That' what they said to me anyway.. they said as long as you are hitting a minimum of 4 you should be ok. I wouldn' just rely on only hitting 4 though. I passed both interviews but after my 1st one I asked for feedback when they asked if I had any queation as I thought I had messed it up. They said that my answers didn' need to be a time when I had saved the world etc it could just be a run of the mill day that you have dealt with something. Don' over complicate things. Still my best bit of advice that I got off here was to take a moment to think about their question and your answer and take a drink of water. If you forget what they have asked don' be scared to ask them to repeat the question. Good luck.

Hi Ashley89, there is a chat (a couple below this one called march intake (Dundee) which has a group of us hopefuls. We also have a whatsapp chat on the go, if you pm me your number I can add you to the WA group

Hi All, Just thought i'd start a thread for anyone who is looking at a March 2018 start date. See what stage we are all at etc. Would be interested to hear how you are all getting on.

Sorry to hear this however do not give up! I didn't pass first time either. Hard work and determination and you'll get it next time.

Just declare it and explain how often you have contact with your father in law. All you can do, they may ask you to attend a pre-employment vetting interview

I am a DC who moved from the MET to the Isle of Man in 2017 and love it! If you want to work on a beautiful island where it's people have a sense of community, look out for one another and think the police are fab - look no further! Ever responded to a stabbing when you know there were witnesses but 'nobody saw it?' It's the opposite here - you'll have people respond who are only too willing to help but may not actually be witnesses! ..you get the picture.. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk

It's Recruitment vetting/Baseline vetting so CTC - same as every force for bog standard officers. If you want to do a more gucci role you will undergo SC or DV (special branch or PSD for example). The vetting is conducted by the force vetting unit within the PSD and the checks are made against an applicant's local force intelligence systems as well as BTP's own.

Well done! My final fitness was supposed to be on Monday but it got cancelled due to a "review of resourcing requirements". Looks like i'll be on the June intake, maybe even the September one by the sounds of things.
